The project BATEEIRO – BoAT ElEctrification for the decarbonisation of the fishing sector at the Island of aROusa continues to advance and has already completed its first part, embodied in the delivery of the Interim Report. During these first months, the available documentation has been analyzed and progress has been made in the design of a hybrid solution to replace the use of diesel in the mussel harvesting boats (called bateeiros) in the Island of Arousa, Galicia.
The project is considering several alternatives for hybridization, both with energy storage in batteries and hydrogen, with the consequent study of the necessary infrastructure for the provision of the fleet. In the following phases, the final configuration will be selected and the technical requirements for the construction of a technology demonstrator will be prepared.
The promoters of this project are the Asociación de Mejilloneros de la Isla de Arousa, the Organización de Productores de la Provincia de Pontevedra and the Consello Regulador Do Mexillon de Galicia. The project is part of the Arousa in Transition Roadmap and has the support of the local town council. This project has received a grant from the H2020 project NESOI – New Energy Solutions Optimised for Islands (G.A. 864266). SFICE participates in this project as an external expert.
